YOU ARE SOUNDING NOTES OF WARNING LIKE A FRUSTRATED PROPHET
we pounded the pavement
banged around every job
site we could find, discovered
no one wanted to hire old
folks with canes as bike
messengers, even though we
could park in the disabled spots.
thus disheartened, we stopped
off at the khyber for shots,
checked the upstairs room
for rogue poetry readings,
came up empty. so we sat
at the bar, shot, wrote, hours
later went back upstairs
and staged our own. the rotary
club were somewhat unimpressed
but were at least polite about it.
Note: the title is a line from the film Older than the Earth (Andy Chukwu, 2006).
